Hi Guys,

Just bought myself some new wheels for my hardtail mtb and need some advise re: adaptors to convert my Centre lock wheels to 6 bolt IS Standard. I'm currently running Shimano XT with RT76 rotors. Is there an adaptor on the market that would allow me to use these or would i be best off getting new rotors of centre lock type?

Any advise would be greatly received.

You can get adapters easily enough, ebay is a good place to start.

Cheers, will check that out. Was curious as an Amazon seller listed the Shimano ones as not compatible with the floating type rotors I've currently got fitted.

Don't think yours are actual floaters.

Cheers for all the advise, emailed a few suppliers this morning and they've confirmed that the RT86 and RT76 rotors are not compatible with these adapters. So looks like this weekends purchase is some new rotors.

If the adapters mount the disc in the same place then there should be no compatibility issues UNLESS the 'form' in the middle wraps it back behind the mounting face and that isn't possible on the adapters.

The extra thickness of the 6 bolt floating rotor means that there will be less thread on the adapter for the lockring to tighten onto.

FWIW, although they're frequently described as floating, they aren't, they're two piece, but they don't float.

I used 1 of these on a centrelock rear wheel to mount a RT76 160mm disc.

Still got one left I am just down the road from you if you want it its a red one.

Edit: Just remembered I had to make the holes in the RT76 disc slightly larger to let the pins of the adaptor slip in two of the holes were slightly undersize.

The RT76 centre is the same thickness as a normal solid rotor, as njee says they arent floating if the OP has posted the right picture.
