I'm looking to build a new mountain bike and i'm not really sure whats best.
I will be doing mainly trail riding, the bike has to be hard tail.
Should I go for a 29er frame, or 650b? I like the idea of the bigger wheels but i'm not sure how much difference they would actually make!
Many Thanks

All mountain hard tail?
Budget?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
130mm or similar 650B hardtail or 26er would be perfect for what you describe. Go for a 2x10 set up with a chain device and bash. It'd be sweet - my Cove handjob (when I can be bothered to work on it) is getting converted to a 2x9 set up with a Heim2 roller guide - its got adjustable 85-115mm forks on and 26er wheels. I'd pretty much ride it anywhere in UK.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0

Cotic BFe frame would be my suggestion although it's not a 29er or 650b, larger wheels are a fad"Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

Are you really sure that 650b is the way to go because I really like the idea of having a 29er...0 -
What are you actually planning on riding. All Mountain and 29er do not generally go together.I don't do smileys.

ehm... well I think mainly general mountain biking, so not really aggressive trail riding with big jumps and stuff. But still quite serious, then also cross country riding.0

If I was getting an aggressive hardtail I would personally get the Bird
Mainly because it has all the right geometry and there's hardly any out there0 -

That was the word I missed...
Although it doesn't take long for interest the spread over the internet

I would go for a Transition Trans Amhttp://www.tweekscycles.com/Product.d ... tAodCDoAtg
Really nice ride. Takes abuse pretty well.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

So when you say all mountain, you really just mean a mountain bike?
Maybe look at
Cotic Bfe
One one 456 or 45650b
Stanton slack line
Even something like a Whyte 905 has great geometry but still very light for the xc stuff0 -
Cheers everybody! Very helpful!0

Why the fixation on big wheels? All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

It's O.K. I followed my mother's advice and picked a girl with small hands so she hasn't twigged yet.All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

26" wheels are obsolete, my 26" bikes have stopped working.
Only 650b works now.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
If anyone would like to demo the Zero, we'll be at Afan Lodge all weekend for the UKGE. We will be bringing a couple of spare bikes for demos, so email me on ben@birdmtb.co.uk if you'd like to try oneA Flock of Birds
