crumbling brake pads

Just had my pads out on the front brake to diagnose a chirping sound that I couldn't fix by aligning the caliper and I noticed that one edge of each pad have started to crumble. They are the original sintered pads that came with my shimano M765 brakes and I was wondering if that is normal or if there are any that hold up better? Considering how thick the pads still are I would have expected more life out them as they aren't even that old. (6month/ 200ish miles flat xc)

Pretty old though - didn't they come with resin pads?

    Just stick some Superstar in.

No definitely sintered. First set of disk brakes iv'e had so from your answer I guess I got longer than normal life out of them. Superstars it is then, cheers for the advice.

I'd expect them to last until worn to the backing plate, although wouldn't recommend going that far.

Just swapped my sintered pads at the weekend and they too had the leading edge crumbling away. Not sure what the cause was but swapped them for some Superstar pads which seem pretty good for the money.
