What is the impact of different rims on how a wheel feels?

It can be difficult to get right, but the right rim makes the wheel feel happy. With the wrong rim the wheel may feel sad and will need to see a wheelologist for some rolling therapy.

    Ask a silly question...
FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future
    FCN 4: Planet X Schmaffenschmack 2- workhorse
FCN 9: B Twin Vitamin - winter commuter/loan bike for trainees

I read that rims can make a wheel feel dead. Is there any point in paying more for archetypes v Ambrosio?

Get two wheels built up, one with Archetypes and the other with Ambrosios but otherwise identical.

Try to take the pulse of each. The one without the pulse is the dead one.

    More than what?

I have Ambrosio Evolution rims on a set of wheels that Ugo of this forum built for me and they are very good indeed. Absolutely no complaints and Ugo did a brilliant job.

I get it guys rims dont make that much difference so why the variation in prices. What does more money buy other than lighter weight (not sure about the cost benefit ratio there)

    Thanks

Rims do make a difference in wheel strength and weight. The depth and profile of the rim also has a small effect on aerodynamics, and the width of the rim has some effect on comfort and handling.
