Any views on whether this would be a decent intro bike for the £'s:

My brother is looking for a bike that he can use for the commute to work (some off road), but also often for MTBing all around the Notts area inc Sherwood Pines etc.

I had a lot of advice when buying mine and have passed on the views that you get more bang for your bucks in the 2nd had market, but that's proving a little difficult having missed out on a few on ebay.

Budget is about £200-£250 if buying outright, but can extend to c£500 if a decent finance deal (0%) is out there, hence this particular bike.

Cheers guys

Oh btw I've also told the bro to sign up himself! Ha.

Except for the forks, which are rubbish.

These are a lot better for less.

Not sure i'd call that a mountain bike, it's a hybrid with those forks, tyres and gear ratios....
