Having an issue with my Ultegra 6700 rear/right hand shifter

It started to get a bit “sticky” a few rides back where it felt like it had lost some grease and it wasn’t as smooth to spring back to the standard position after each down shift (to the larger sprockets on the cassette)

I liberally sprayed GT85 into the mechanism which appeared to bring the brifter back to normal once its internals were wet

On trying it this morning, it now doesn’t spring back to standard position so assuming the GT85 has dried up

As the brifter is fine after some lube – am I right to assume that I just need to get a decent lube that will not dry out or does it need taken apart by a specialist/LBS?

It hasn’t done too many miles but is out of warranty now

Any advice greatly received

Thanks

It maybe worth checking the cable because if the cable starts to fray it can cause issues.

Unfortunately, Shimano don't make their shifters very serviceable. Check the cables first as suggested, make sure there's nothing impeding them running smoothly. Maybe try drop of 3in1 or some such. Or learn to deal with it.

New cables done by LBS 2 months ago so don't think it's that

bought some muc off brake cleaner (on advice from Evans) to get rid of any residue then will apply TF2 to the brifter to see if that helps

    Cheers

This is a common problem with shimano shifters, i spray with wd-40 whilst working through the gears to fully clean and get things moving again then use a grease gun with a ptfe grease and inject into the shifter everywhere you can whilst working through the gears to ensure that everything is well lubricated, this should a permanent solution.

Didn't bother with the brake cleaner just now

used the TF2 when I got on from work earlier and it's shifting like a dream

Will update if I have any further probs

    Thanks
