Strava not recording

Anyone else having issues with Strava recently? For the last couple of weeks it's not been recording any distance. I haven't changed anything from before, GPS is on and working fine with other apps, and the map on Strava seems to have a good idea of where I am.

I've contacted Strava and they just pointed me in the direction of the GPS troubleshooting page; followed the suggestions there, still no joy.

Anyone else having problems? Using a Samsung Galaxy S2, if that makes any difference.

Typical IT answer I know, but have you tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling?

I had a similar problem with a Galaxy Nexus, a software update pretty much killed it's GPS functionality.

Best thing to do is to give it time to get a trace before you set off.

I got a Garmin for Christmas so ultimately that's how I solved it.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Make sure the app is enabled for data roaming and location services.

simonj - my solution to most technological problems and pretty much the first thing I tried!

Me-109 - all switched on. None of the settings have changed from a couple of weeks ago (as far as I can tell) when it was working fine.

Initialised - that is what I was thinking might have happened :( Figured others might have had the same problem recently. I sat outside for 10 minutes this morning, strava wouldn't pick up a gps signal.
  • I don't have any problems with the ride map, speeds, distance, ascent and descent recording properly, but my calorie counter seems to be way out when I compare strava and my edge 200.
my list ride for example was 23.5 miles, 15.23mph average speed, 29mph max speed, calories burned 1535.
everything matches on strava apart from the calories burned, which according to strava was only 692.
I am more inclined to believe my edge 200 because it has more information about me on it. strava just asks for your sex and your weight. my edge 200 asks for your sex, DOB, weight and height.
  • Don't know if it's the same problem but a few weeks ago I went through a period where my phone (Android) really struggled to set the GPS location. I downloaded an app called GPS status which seemed to improve things.

I would have thought that calorie counters are a guesstimate and provide pretty much worthless information ...

Some calorie counters massively overestimate. I'd think the strava estimate was closer than the garmin figure.

I always work on burning about 100 calories per mile when I run. So there's no way that a 23 mile bike is as hard as a 15 mile run.
