Garmin 500 vs 705

So I’ve had a 500 for a few months now- used on the road bike only. I’m thinking of uploading some MTB routes to try out and was wondering whether an old 705 would be better for this purpose over the 500.
I ask as a mate has a 705 he doesn’t use anymore (got SRM), and is after selling it. It includes the Euro road maps apparently.
I know the 500 has issues with losing trails- would the 705 be better? 500 just has the “bread crumb”, trail which is fine (I’d plot routes on Memory Map)
If it’s worth the swap, I might sell the 500 and buy his 705….

I still like my 705, the maps aren't that useful off-road other than providing a bit of perspective - does help a bit, you know when you should be crossing a road etc. they're good for road use, obviously.
It's a bigger unit, and battery life isn't as good. That said i find mine perfectly adequate.0
