Team orders were for him to ride for Wiggins and, all in all, that's what he did. Froome himself believes he should have been allowed to race for the GC (getting MC to check his contract prior to his attack) and I don't think there's much controversy in saying Froome could have won it.

The statement you quote is simplistic and bordering on being misleading as it makes it sound as if Froome let Wiggins win. However, that is semantics. He was ordered to let Wiggins compete for the win.

Sorry didn't realise Wiggins would have still had minutes of Froome thanks to the TTs

There is no way that helping Wiggins cost Froome that Tour, he was over 2 minutes back before the first mountain finish. There were times when Froome could probably have taken small amounts of time back but his climbing style is one of short accelerations whereas Wiggins can lose the wheel but comes back like the diesel he is. I don't see Froome getting more than a handful on any stage and then there was another TT where Wiggins took more time.

He lost the bulk of his time in a crash from memory but still would have had to have made quite a bit of time up on the climbs. He also looked likely to blow up if left to his own devices - he looked cooked just before his infamous attack.
