The landing doesn't need to be particularly steep. As long as you land on a down slope some of that energy from the landing will go to forward monentum.
    What bike do you ride?

Made a start building a small jump on Sunday evening and got the up ramp part finished. Only a couple of feet up but but quite short and poppy and felt good enough landing on the flat at speed. Will add in a down ramp to create a gap of around 6 feet initially and a bit lower before progressing upwards.

Only a 3 hour drive, if I'm in Devon it's normaly near Barnstaple which still isn't that close.
Much riding that way? My parents live towards Torrington but I've yet to take my bike down. I fancy the look the dunes in Braunton.

I really don't know to be honest, I only started riding again last year after a gap of about 10 years. I visit Westward Ho! once or twice a year to kitesurf there.

Well despite having made about 750 posts on this forum, I've never managed to upload photos (even rubez can, I know) so sorry about that. I ride a 26" stumpy, 120mm rear, 140mm front. Looking forwards to progressing this weekend. :)
