Reverb Help!

Hi,
Appreciate some help - I have a reverb on my bike and when I sit on the saddle it drops down by about an inch and also wont come back up without me pulling it .... so def not in good health which is frustrating given its only a couple of months old!
I noticed that the cable as it goes into the post is damaged so my initial plan was to remove the hose fitting cut down the cable and re-fit then bleed the system to see if this resolves it.
What I could do with some help would be any do's and don'ts / videos of these two processes to follow.
I have a lapierre Zesty (2011) so stealth is not an option is there any other recommendations on keep that cable safe so this is less likely to happen again?
