FLYS and BUGS- are they too much extra protein mid-ride?

For my personal preference fly wings tend to get stuck between the teeth, tho I enjoy the May bugs, I think there is a higher protein content and a better crunch!

I like to ride with my mouth as wide open as possible, just like a Basking Shark feeding on plankton. That way I can hoover up as much protein AND oxygen as possible. Win-Win.

I got a ton of bugs in my mouth yesterday, I dont think I managed to chew any of it though. Most of it simply went straight down. No time for chewing on a climb!

About this time last year I was cycling down in Bavaria and was surprised to see people riding about (on road bikes) with head mosquito nets on to prevent such a thing.

Looked weird as hell and made me laugh. Right up to the point I got bit in the forehead by a horse fly!!

May give it a go if the insect population explodes like it threatens to. Bloody beetles everywhere right now.

I think i must hve rid Warwickshire of about 50% of its fly population this weekend!!

how do so many of them get between my eyes and sunglasses and then completely lose the ability to get back out again?
