I really want to go for a double and bash, currently I have 42-32-24T, I find that the 32 is not giving me enough of a ratio and the 24 is maybe a little to small, what would be a good compromise? I use the 42 only on roads downhill.

Nothing as in do nothing. You use what you have so all you'll gain is an inch or so ground clearance. May even gain weight depending on bash choice0
