Have recently installed a PC950 9 speed cassette and a PC971 chain on my mountain bike both new but when I insert pressure on cranks the chain skips..... :?

Any suggestions on how to solve this would be gratefully appreciated.

Neil.

Skipping on the chainwheels perhaps, if so new wheels are needed, or could it be ghost shifting at the rear if you haven't reindexed following the cassette change.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Make sure your cassette lockring is tight enough and there's no play in the cassette.

The cassette really should not be able to jump on the freehub. Check the distance between the top jockey wheel and the cassette when in first gear. Should be around 5mm. If it's something ridiculous like 20mm the chain may be jumping on the cassette as it's not wrapped round enough
