Crashed on a descent, been taken to hospital - not looking nice

Says it all that that appears to be all anyone cares about the USPro...

BMC just posted that he has broken his leg. Awful news, I hope he makes a full recovery.

Gee thats a big blow. Not sure whether he can recover in time for the Tour. He was going for the double RR and TT so maybe he was pushing like crazy...maybe not though as early on in the race.

Which incidentally you can watch live here:

No radios = driving the chase group to catch the break your own teammate is trying to stretch lol.

Damn, I really like Phinney as a rider, hope he will be OK. How long does a broken leg normally take to heal? Gutted for him.

Compound fracture of the lower leg apparently. Not good. According to the commentators it may have been caused by a motorobike taking an unexpected line on the descent.

Gutted for Taylor, always strikes me as being a nice guy. Haven't seen the incident yet, but from what BMC are saying, it sounds as though this season is over for him. Just as he was hitting really good form too.

That's terrible - never good to see an elite athlete injured badly. Hope he makes a full recovery, unlike Andy Schlek.

Initially looked at that photo and thought his leg was in a right mess but then realised there's someone kneeling behind the armco and all you can see is a bit of their leg  Hope he gets fixed up, his stage win in California was superb.

That is unfortunate. I would have thought he would be out of the vuelta now never mind the tour (theoretically obviously)
Nast nasty injury it's a dangerous old game :(

    Serious shame for him.

Some suggestion he was descending too fast for the front moto:

So annoying when a moto man caused this crash. They should do their job better. I guess this is the US though and not continental Europe.

Nasty crash, nasty injury. That's 2014 done for.

    Recover well, Young Phinney.
