Snowdonia: Stwlan Dam, Marchlyn Mawr and others?

Hello,

I'm heading to Snowdonia shortly. Does anyone have any recommended road bike climbs? I'm staying in Beddgelert.

I'd spotted a couple of climbs up to dams: Stwlan and Marchlyn Mawr. Are the roads to these open to cyclists or will I get chased around by security guards?

Really grateful for any advice.

Cheers!

This thread should answer your question.

Did both recently and they're brilliant climbs. If you start down in the valley for both climbs you'll end up climbing about 500m.

Bwlch y groes from dinas mawddwy is probably the hardest climb in snowdonia and one of the hardest in the uk.
  • Thanks sbbefc - they sound fantastic. Not sure anyone has got to the bottom of whether the roads are private but I'm guessing it is not a huge problem.

private roads owned by the power/water company, access to marchlyn is via an old bridleway apparently - never had any bother
