Campagnolo lockring problem

So, I have just bought an old (1998?) Campag Chorus/Athena wheelset. I skipped into my garage to put an 11 speed cassette on it and.... *drum roll* the lockring does not fit. Google reveals that this is because these hubs use 26x1 threads for the lockring while modern ones use 27x1. Arsebadger.
Options:
1) I find a 26x1 lockring and pay ££ for it.
Pros: Simple solution
Cons:
-Will be a 9speed lockring - will it be too wide/threaded part not long enough to hold on an 11 speed cassette?
-Will cost about £25 which just burns a little bit.
2) I swap over freehub bodies. I have a pair of modern, bog standard Khamsins sitting round doing nothing so I could just sacrifice that to the Campag gods and steal its freehub.
Pros: Free
Cons:
-Is this even possible with generations of campag this far apart?
-No idea how to take off freehub bodies
Advice needed please!
(N.B. Have choice of either 11t or 12t on outside which simplifies things a little.)

Buy the correct lockring, the likelihood of a freehub swap working is somewhere between slim and none. Once you have the correct lockring you're sorted.
Don't you have an old lockring you could use, or at least grind down enough to fit?0 -
Nope, only got 8 speed or 11 speed ones, useful! Have asked the guy I bought the wheels off whether he had one knocking around but I'm not holding my breath.
So looks like options are:

They do all say for 9 speed though, which worries me.0 -
Grinding down the top faceplate doesn't really worry me, but not having sufficient thread to screw the thing on does0

I think you will find the 11S cassette will not work with those old hubs...it will rub on the frame.0
