Campagnolo lockring problem

So, I have just bought an old (1998?) Campag Chorus/Athena wheelset. I skipped into my garage to put an 11 speed cassette on it and.... *drum roll* the lockring does not fit. Google reveals that this is because these hubs use 26x1 threads for the lockring while modern ones use 27x1. Arsebadger.

Options:

1) I find a 26x1 lockring and pay ££ for it.
Pros: Simple solution
Cons:
-Will be a 9speed lockring - will it be too wide/threaded part not long enough to hold on an 11 speed cassette?
-Will cost about £25 which just burns a little bit.

2) I swap over freehub bodies. I have a pair of modern, bog standard Khamsins sitting round doing nothing so I could just sacrifice that to the Campag gods and steal its freehub.
Pros: Free
Cons:
-Is this even possible with generations of campag this far apart?
-No idea how to take off freehub bodies

Advice needed please!

(N.B. Have choice of either 11t or 12t on outside which simplifies things a little.)
