Whispbars from the roofbox company. Have them on my Touareg and allow me to have the pan roof open due to them being raised slightly higher. The also have an inserted rubber sleeve in the track to reduce wind noise.

I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

Have only ever had Thule stuff but it always seems very well made/designed and is super quick and easy to use.

Notice they do a new wing bar now but we have the older aero bars (which look slightly less aero lol).

I like the way Thule stuff just slides on and off the bars rather than clamps around them.

I really want to buy one of these but cringe at the thought of trusting it with a £5k bike

Can recommend the Thule 591. Used it last year to transport my bike from the Midlands to Scotland for the Etape Caledonia. Solid, reliable and quick to attach and dismount the bike.

Cheapest place I found was in the Sandicliffe Shop.

There was a Sandicliffe car showroom near me so I did a click and collect thus saving on the shipping costs. But even with shipping it still undercuts most if not all other suppliers. Remember you have to add the cost of roof bars and clamping feet/brackets.

What is the general consensus on fork mounted carriers? Are they ok for carbon forks? I've got a cervelo S5 and my Thule doesn't really fit the wider downtube. Carry it in car whenever possible but with 2 kids it will have to be roof if I want to take it on holiday?

I use them on my Wilier and the Mrs Bianchi, never had any problems and would much prefer to clamp the forks than the down tube.

What's the consensus on carbon drop outs? I prefer the idea of a fork mount but am concerned with the full carbon..

They look fairly decent, especially the new model
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
