Road riding deserters

Hi all,
So to jump straight in, my riding buddies have gradually converted to road riding to the extent that I find myself riding solo more often than not, I'm debating joining the local mtb club to gain more riding buddies. Would this be a good idea? Are riding clubs worthwhile or should I just keep hitting up the trails see who will let me tag along that way?
I don't mind riding alone sometimes find it good to clear the head and get away from everything, but it is more fun with others to have banter about those near misses or the bits of trail you've just ridden.
Thanks Steve

Why not? If you don't like it don't go back.

Clubs can be good for finding new riding buddies.
I don't understand why anyone would give up mountain biking to ride on the road.

Look in the rides section here, or post something up.
    Also look on Facebook.
Our London Calling thread developed into a quite well used Facebook page, and there are a couple more local to me, like this.

MTB club (shudders) I wouldnt join any club that would have me as a member. As cooldad says find a local informal facebook group and join up with them for a ride much better than an organised club where you have to pay subs, buy the club tat jersey and be bossed about by someone with a Napoloeon complex.

Thanks for the replies guys, exchanged a few messages with my local club who have invited me to go on a few rides to see if I like it/them before committing to join, they seem friendly enough.
Local trail is sherwood pines apparently the cycle shop will be doing some shop rides too.
