If not Rotor then what?

Hi fellas, perhaps you can help me.

I've a really nice Cannondale Slice tt bike that I'm in the process of lightening. Through my local bike shop I ordered some Rotor 3D+ cranks and round 53/39 rings, a very light arrangement to replace the boat anchor set the bike came with. The Rotor cranks use the bb30 system so should be a straight swap. I ordered the standard 130bcd spider but what came was what is now called the MAS (micro adjust system) spider, a solid round of metal instead of the spider. It weighs more and looks quite ugly. Apparently the standard spider is no longer available, a fact unknown by my bike shop. The shop's been very good and will send it back if I don't want it, but to the crux of the question, what other choices do I have? I want stiff, light, 130bcd and preferably bb30. I could sleeve down the bearings to 24mm I suppose.......

Your thoughts on the matter would be appreciated

How.

  • There is a FSA SLK-Light for sale in the classifieds for £100. Very light but I find the rings quite soft.

This is the 2014 Rotor 3D+ non MAS

That's the crankset I wanted, but no longer available. Am considering da7900? With a praxxis bb. Seems the wrong approach though.
  • Think Fudges have them but only in a compact, Bellatisports have them for £234, id go with these with 52/36 Praxis rings or the new SiSL2 if you can find them reasonable priced.....

You should get the Rotor Flow as it's the best choice for a TT bike. In regards to the 3D+ MAS it's only 40g heavier (515g as opposed to 475g). If you're actually more concerned about weight than aerodynamics on a TT bike then you really need to reevaluate your priorities...

Compact seems to be available but not 130bcd. I'll look at Bellatisports. I have 52/38 at the mo on a compact spider and find they flex. 53/39 is my aim with less flex.

The sisl2 are attractive but at least 50% more.
