Going to a Double Chainring on my Giant Trance.

Hi All....
I'm thinking of going to a double chain ring with chain device,
and was wondering what I'd need to get this set-up.

What model trance?

Unless it's the very new one you wont be getting a chain device on it, unless you use a seat tube mounted one in place of the front mech.

Hi..Its a 2012 X1... but I've been looking around, maybe I should just rig up a home made chain device similar to the Bionicon version and just leave it with 3 rings.

You can either fit a ISCG guide if you have the tabs or a BB mounted one which involves swapping out a spacer on the BB itself (no big deal) - I had an E13 twin ring chain guide which worked great combined with a bash guard.

I think I had the Heim guide - plenty of similar 2 ring guides out there.

I had a bb mounted Blackspire stinger on my old Trance.

I had a Bionicon C Guide on my Trance which worked well.

don't even have to do that, just don't use the granny ring lol

I went 1x10 on mine with a clutch mech. No chain retention issues at all.
