Good beginner road bike for me and my wife?

I see us riding 10-30 miles for fitness. Looking for something decent, but doesn't need to be top-of-the-line. If we really get hooked, we could go top of the line later. Is there something to be had in the $400-$500 range?

    Giant Defy 5 (£450 new, £300/400 pre loved).. Brilliant bike, i used to own one when i first got into riding.
    Mekk Pinerolo AL 1.5 (£600 new, £400 pre loved), Race geomatry, fast and comes with carbon forks
    Specialized Allez (£550 new, £300 pre loved), Good allrounder


    Mekk pinerolo comes with mostly Tiagra components which are pretty decent for a newbie.
    It never gets easier, You just go faster!
