I'm 15 and about 6'1. I'm looking for a good beginner road bike to travel to and from school daily. Just about 4miles total. I don't really know much about cycling but I would like to get into it.

Please give me some suggestions of some good looking and well-riding bicycles. I'm trying to spend $300 or less. I've already looked at bicycles on craigslist.. and they don't have ****.

Please Help, Thanks.

$300 ? - dont know what you could get for hundred and seventy quid.

Have you tried your local bike shop for any second hand bikes etc. ?

You should be able to find a nice 'vintage' steel or aluminum frame 10-speed or 12-speed for under $300.

    You'll probably need a 24 inch (59-60 cm) frame.

The 'modern' wheels are called 700c, and use innertubes that have skinny 'presta' valve.
Older wheels are 27 inch, and use innertubes with valves like on a car.
The 700c wheels are more desireable, and you'll find a bigger selection of tires for them.

Look for 'downtube shifters', chainrings that don't have a 'guard ring', a small 'spoke protector' on the rear wheel.

On a steel frame, lugs on the frame tubing is desireable.

Watch for brands such as Lotus, Miyata, Bridgeport, some Schwinn, Fuji, also search the Sheldon Brown website.

I don't know why you would want to have these. First is not a problem, but if brifters are available should be ok.
Why would you need a spoke protector?

Not sure OP will recognise what frame lugs are either.
