All gps units that can output a gpx,tcx or fit file are strava compatible.

If you want mapping the edge 800, if not the edge 500.

For something cheaper the etrex 10 without mapping or the etrex 20 or 30 with mapping.

Well if they're all strava compatable

Then I'd like a GPS that will track my route (Obviously) and measure all the other main stats.. Average and max speed, Distance, time and so on

    They all do that too!

Budget and do you want maps, cadence hrm etc are going to be the deciding factors for what you want.

For example I have a garmin 200, no maps (tho does allow breadcrumb trails), no cadence, no HRM. Only ~£80

Edge 500/510 adds cadence and HRM compatible

    Edge 800/810 adds mapping.

Edge 1000 adds even more (not sure what)

Each going up in price for more features.

EDIT: Note other manufacturers and models are available

    Ahh okay,

Looking at that I'd probably say the 810 is worth getting, I think the mapping may be useful
But Garmin seems to be the market leader

I may get the old 705
A few going cheap on ebay and Strava list the 705 as compatible with their app too

    Little post highjack...

Is there a good handle bar mount for the eTrex 20 available? Am I right in thinking it just comes with a couple of cable ties to secure it?

Okay.. I'm yet to buy one but I'm more clear on what I want

So can anyone recommend a cheapish GPS unit that I can export files from and upload to strava and works with strava segments?
Ideally it has a strong signal as signals are weak where I live but also plots an accurate route
    Handelbar mountable
Basic features such as distance, time, speed, max speed..
A decent battery life (Long enough for big rides)
I don't care about having a map on the screen a I ride

    Thanks

All those previously mentioned fulfil your requirements.

+1 what freezing 77 said but also take a look at the Bryton range of GPS. They are cheaper than garmin and do the job just as well.

I've just bought a Garmin Edge 510, one thing it adds over the old 500 is bluetooth to your phone to automatically upload to Garmin Connect when you finish your ride. I then use Tapiriik to sync with Strava, this syncs with no intervention as once you have signed up it does everything automatically in the cloud. Strava then picks up all the segments etc like normal.

The 510 also gives turn by turn directions but without the map. Just plan a course then upload to the 510 and before a turn it will prompt you.

I used to just use my iPhone with Strava but the Garmin is much more accurate.

  • I have a forerunner watch... means I dont have anything on the bars and its easier and more accurate than my phone.

Plus its got heart rate and can add other things if I wanted.

Just doesnt have any maps, but I dont need maps :)

I'm going to buy one on ebay as there's a lot of nearly new ones on there

Looking at the Garmin edge and Bryton ones and hopefully there will be a decent price
May look into getting a GPS watch if they GPS units are more expensive than I'd like
