That's an excellent result for Oliver Wood - he's only 18, 1st year on the Academy0

Davide Ballerini won stage 7. Anyone know if he's related to Franco in any way?0

Apparently he is no relation to the late Franco.
I thought I would mention two riders who competed in and finished the Ras yesterday. First, Padraig Marrey finished his twelfth Ras at the age of 41. Hi features in that photo of shattered Ras riders that featured in another post here on Bikeradar.

Another rider worthy of mention is an old clubmate of mine, Mike McNena. Mike was one of the outstanding talents in Ireland in the 1990's and wasn't too far off gaining a pro contract. He returned to the sport this year at the age of 37 to compete in the Ras once again. Former pro Ciaran Power was also due to return and ride the Ras on the Waterford team with Mike but was unable to participate due to family circumstances. Ciaran raced with the Linda McCartney Team and rode very well in their appearance at the Giro D'Italia in 2000, with two top-10 stage finishes. I was the (very unskilled) mechanic for the Thermo King CC team at the 1996 Ras when Mike and Ciaran made their debut in the race with that team and both were obvious talents. Hopefully Ciaran can return next year and complete another Ras, a race he won twice in the past. Mike was one of the protagonists at the 1998 U-23 Worlds in Holland and his comments regarding that race in this interview are very interesting.
