Bottom Bracket Wrench

Hi,
I am trying to install a new bottom bracket, I took the old one off no problem (Deore bb51), but my bb wrench does not fit the new bottom bracket (it is too large) which is a XTR M980. I would have thought the cups would be a standard size?!

Are you sure you have the right model numbers? Look like they take the same tool to me

I will take a picture tonight, the xtr is too small to fit my bottom bracket wrench - but it comes with a little plastic ring that fits inside the wrench.0
