650b or the 29'er with the right discounts the price will be fine and on the plus side can walk to the shop

You can get the boardman pro or the team fs for cheaper than the team hardtail with discounts I have the fs pro and are very happy with it just type 22% off at halfords in your web search

Both are better specced than the other options easy decision unless brand snobbery is your thing

    know the halford discounts

and don't have any brand snobbery

went and looked at the cannondale ohh and they had a fs pro in Halfords(overkill for me but very nice )
    ruled the cannondale out

think the vitus is front runner but having a serious think on the boardmans

Ask them to get a pro hardtail in to look at unbelievable spec for the cost with discount your under no obligation to buy
