Pedal advice for new Bike

I'm getting back into Mountain Biking after a few years off and have picked up a mid-range bike to get me started, it's a Boardman Team HT
Now maybe it's the Shoes I'm wearing (Vans) but the Pedals (Wellgo k79's) just don't feel all that good for grip and I feel like my feet just slide off... Anyway I've been looking at a couple of options and so far the Shimano Saints or a pair of DMR's look like they will be a good upgrade...
Any other good Flats out there that anyone can recommend before I make a purchase?

get clipless and forget about flats
superstar do a decent range of pedals cheaply enough0 -
The Saints are very grippy, though you need to remove the washers from the pins. I've almost fallen over a couple of times when I've stopped, gone to slide my foot off the pedal and it's just stayed put. It's taken a bit of frantic foot lifting to get my foot off and down in time before I do the comedy keel over. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Haha, yeah I think between the Saints and the DMR V12's I am definitely swayed towards the Saints, I've also found them really cheap on ebay...

If you want flats the general consensus is Superstar or Saints (Wellgo mg1s also), but you won't get the most out of any pedals without buying proper shoes. I have the Saints and love them, v12s have the same body as v8s, and I find Shimano much more grippy than the v8s I had.Cube Analog 2012 with various upgrades.0

I finished last season on Superstar Ultra Mags and been using them for the first few weeks of this season and I can't fault them...light, extremely grippy, seem tough enough so far"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

They look really good in White, I'm not sure how much better they will be over the ones I have though...0 -
About 100x better! Bigger platform, proper replaceable pin studs, great bearings, 200g lighter. One of the best flat pedals there is. And at this price, is a bloody steal.0

Thanks for all the advice guys, after 2 days of looking at the various options I went for the Shimano Saint PD-MX80's, I know they're a little more expensive but the reviews on them all said they are a good buy... I also liked the 2 tone Colour more than some of the other Pedals... While at it I also grabbed a pair of ODI Ruffian Lock-On's with Bonus Pack in Lime Green/Black... They should be here tomorrow so I will get a Pic once they're both fitted...0

I went on Holiday so only just managed to get the new bits fitted, anyway here's a couple of pics of the Parts on the Bike... I removed the spacers from the Grip Screws on the Saints for extra Grip...
I think the ODI Ruffian Grips look great against the Green Logo on the Frame...

CRC are out of stock on those at present so I went for the Wellgo MG-1 pedals, as I had some vouchers to use.0
