9000, 9001

Hi I know of someone selling some Dura ace 9000 shifters and mechs, I am tempted to buy them but the guy isn't sure if they are 9000 or 9001, how can you tell which one they are, does it say anywhere on them or is it a case of comparing them to another set to see if they are the same or not

    They should be stamped under the hood near the bar mounting bracket

    As far as I know the 9001 refers to shifters only. To tell the difference, on the inner face of the lever where it nears the top (near the metal cap of the hood) the levers internals will be exposed on 9000. On 9001 this section of the lever will be carbon fibre.
