Cleat Fit on Small Shoes

A female friend who is new to cycling has size 4 ladies (Diadora) carbon soled shoes. The problem comes when we try to fit SPD-SL cleats to them. The bend in the sole means that, when fully tightened, the cleat is bent to match the profile of the sole. This then makes clipping in impossible. I'm guessing that there must be some sort of fix/adaptor/spacer for this issue. Can anybody please point us in the right direction.

Need to pack the cleat with something hard, plastic glazing spacers/packers could possibly work if trimmed to suit

That's what we've done - just seems ridiculously Heath-Robinson though...

  • Same problem here. Annoying. Bit of inner tube worked. Once it is in then trim excess from around the edge. You won't need to touch it until the cleat is worn out.
