Is there a special way to preload the adjustment on a Campagnolo Record Headset? Should the normal method of undoing the stem bolts and then adjusting the top bolt work? I have a little play in the headset and tightening up the top bolt doesn't seem to help.

Make sure the top cap is not bottoming out on the stem.

Make sure you have not pulled the bung up the steerer.

I think there's a special way to preload Campagnolo headsets and I'm trying to workout if this applies to mine as the normal method is not working. My exact headset model AFAIK is a " Campagnolo Record 1 1/8" Hidden (ITS) 45 x 45" and comes fitted to a Ribble carbon frame as an upgrade over the Ribble banded headset.

Someone told me that with Campy headsets you have to flip the top cover, then make the adjustment and then flip the top cover back the right way. That doesn't make any sense at all, but they were adamant that was the procedure with Campy headsets. Can anyone shed any light on this?

did you fit the nylon cone? Campagnolo uses a plastic cone instead of the usual O ring
