Hi,

I'm about to take delivery of a 2013 Ridley Helium frame which has a BB30 bottom bracket and I want to fit my ultra-torque chainset on it. The Campag website has Ultra-Torque OS-Fit cups listed as the solution for this. Has any one any experience of fitting & using these? I'd appreciate any feedback on both how to fit them (Campag say workshop quality headset press!) and whether or not they're any good.

Cheers

Can't help, but I'm after the same info.

Lots of frames seem to be BB30 but I don't like the idea of buying a new frame and the BB clicking away

My mates bike is new and has been back 3 times with noisy bb30

Hoping the Campag solution is trouble free

Campag cups are thought to be a little too shallow so can creak. saying that, mine are fine. There's a lot to do with the quality of the BB30 shell. I would think a Ridley Helium is decent.

These are supposed to be very good but a bit more pricey:

Lotto Belisol use the PF30 version on their Ridleys:

I was doing research into this recently and found the integrated cups for campag ultra torque cranks did not get a good review due to endless amounts of people complaining about creaking. Campag have come up with a new system for bb30/pf30 with their over torque bottom bracket along with comp one or comp ultra cranks which is the route I've gone down. My only problem is been waiting a long time to get hold of the crankset as they're hard to get hold of and due to get them at end of May and the other thing to keep in mind is a new set of campag tools for over torque.

I presume that just like with threaded cups, the UT cranks are torqued up to 52nm with the bearing clip? Which in theory should hold the whole thing together. That's quite a bit of force.
The reason I say this is because the threads on my winter hack were in very poor condition so I filed the threads off completely so that they were a sort of press fit (not very tight). I used a wood vice to press them in flush to the frame and assembled the cranks as normal. I have had no issues with them after 3 winters.
My friend had a Ribble with a Centaur groupset which had a creaking BB. On closer inspection, the clip was still in the BB cup! I removed the clip and the creak was still present so re-assembled the crank to the upper torque limit and the creaking was gone.

I was going to pop in to an LBS next week to enquire about replacing the current groupset (Shimano 105) to Campag on a Cervelo which has a BBRight BB, didn't realise there were creaking issues until seeing this thread.

The c-bear options look Ok for UT and OT, does anyone know if you can buy direct from c-bear by emailing them?

Daithi, I use Neil at Forza Cycles in Llantwit Major who is a designated Campag Pro-Shop, might be worth considering as it's not too far from you in case any special tools are required for the BB job.
