I've just obtained a new Ribble Sportive carbon frame, so I'm starting a new bike build. I'm reasonably competent and have built up one aluminium bike before, but just wanted to know if anyone has any useful advice or experience that may help me avoid any expensive mistakes. I've got all the parts I need, either as new or items I'm taking from one of my other bikes.

Torque wrench 1-20nm. If new you may need to cut the forks to size, measure 2-3-4 times before cutting and make sure you cut straight. Torque wrench, torque wrench & torque wrench. Carbon assembly paste.

There's no difference other than being careful with your clamping of carbon parts.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

Stick the seatpost in first and clamp that in your workstand.

If anything needs pressing in, make sure it's going in square.

Apart from that, carbon's tougher than you think.

If you feel the need for a hammer/force to make parts fit:
    1. put the tools down,
    2. walk-away and
    3. consult the web ;-)
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Put a cheap alu seat post in for the build and use that to clamp to the workstand.

Don't clamp anything nice/carbon the workstand.

    Torque wrench.

Spirit level for shifters and seat.

Cups of coffee, biscuits and patience.

Copperslip for things that turn, moly for things that don't, carbon paste as required.

    Torque wrench.

Decent tools so you don't round anything off/jeff up cutting cables.

Little sticky patches to stop the cables rubbing the paint/finish off.

    Radio 6 music.

Ode To Joy as the final tweaks are made and satisfaction at the completed build rises?
