Just purchased a set of Ksyrium and they came with the Yksion tyres on them.

I was very impressed with the new "system" but I do like my Contis. Is there much between them performance wise - I know I could swap them over but it's a PITA and wondered if anyone else had done the same thing and I could learn from their wisdom !!

(Highly recommend the Ksyrium SLS btw...)

Do a Google search, they don't get very good reviews

Seems they don't do so well in the wet then. I'll have to swap them around - must say I was impressed with them on dry roads today though.
  • They're fast on dry roads- light and supple.
    They're useless on wet roads.
    They wear fast.

I am in the same boat as you, I got the SLS wheelset last year and put my existing 4000s tyres on them. Now that the 4000s are worn out I thought I would try the Yksions.

One ride later and I am quite impressed. fast, supple and seemingly much more comfortable than the 4000s which are like hosepipe in comparison.

What they are like in wet and how long they last I don't know yet, but since this is on my best bike and i only ride it in the dry, this is not so much of a concern for me.

I'll leave them on for a while to get a more firm opinion on them.

The Mavics came as standard on my Cervelo, after the first ride, mildly damp, I got rid of them, they offer no confidence even on a damp road. Wouldn't liked to have found out whet they were like in the rain.

I changed them over and think the Yksion are slightly quicker, but from what people say I'm going to leave the 4000s on. The lack of confidence of Yksions in the wet is a concern...

There was a thread on this just a couple of weeks ago.

I got 5,500 kms out of my Mavic Tyres and had two rear wheel flats in that time. They were OK but never felt great on corners or in the damp.
Replaced then with GP4000s which I have used before.

As many others have said, I found the Mavic tyres very sketchy in the wet. Even if they don't slip on corners they 'feel' like they are, but most definitely the rears did slip on a few steep climbs I did, where I know the Conti's would stick.

I kept them on for a few dry runs (too lazy to change), but last night finally reshod my Ksyrium's with Conti's and they just felt alot better on corners. Just felt I could lean more into corners and keep my speed up. Maybe it's all psychological, but riding is as much about confidence especially in less than ideal conditions.

My Mavic tyres lasted 2 rides. Hideously bad in the wet on ride one and a HUGE cut through tyre and inner tube on ride two.

The huge cut could have happened to any tyre, I know, but I wasn't impressed and ditched them for 4000s.

I am going to keep going with mine for a while as they are significantly more comfortable than the 4000s which will be great for long rides.

They are fine in the dry and I was on damp roads last night and didn't feel in imminent danger, including one high speed descent. The jury is still out.
  • I now have a shattered femur having come off in the wet.

The surgeon says I'm not allowed near my bike for at least six months, but the first thing I'm going to do is tear off those Yksion tyres I bought eight weeks ago.

Sorry to hear that, that's really bad luck.
I have 3 sets of mavic tyres lying around never used. First thing I done was swapped them out for 4000s and 4 seasons. Was going to use them if I got stuck but after the comment above maybe not. Conti tyres are pricey but always a safe bet.

Same here - the Yksion Pros came with the Ksyrium SLS on my new Olympia 849 and intend only to use this only in the dry. They feel good on limited dry/damp mileage.

I have a spare set of GP4000sII still boxed and use 4000s on the other bike, so will wait and see.

    Hope you GWS.

My winter bike has Aksion tyres on, soon to be relegated to turbo use. I've come off twice on very low speed corners in the wet, and going up steep hills the rear is constantly slipping. Horrendous grip once the road is damp.

I have GP4000s on my other bike and have complete confidence in them, dry or wet.

Just replaced the rear Mavic tyre that came on my Ksyriums after about 1000 miles. It has cut up pretty badly and the threads are showing through in a couple of places. Replace with Conti GP4000.

Strangely the Mavic tyre on the front is barely showing any sign of wear.

As an update, i swapped out the rear after 5500 km of trouble free cycling. The front is still in service after 8000km, no incidents so far.

I am now running a schwalbe one on the rear, also going well so far

I had Askion tyres which I never used when I got a new bike(never used the wheels either) but put them on last month when my Conti's were showing signs of wear and was going away for a several days with the bike and wanted new tyres. Have to say I have done 1000 miles so far on them and no hassles so far. Have to admit most of the mileage was done in the dry but found them quite good but wont purchase another pair as I have used Continental GP for years now and the MKII are even better.

I think the Askions have visible tread and Yksion don't have any.

The Aksions on mine (came on 2014 Aksium wheels) are completely tread free.

I have just changed my Yksions that came with my Mavic Wheels and after recommendations on here have changed to a set of Michelin SC

They managed 2500 miles and i prob could of got another 500 out of them however they were starting to square off quite badly and had a couple of rear punctures in quick succession.

I actually found them pretty good to ride. They seem fast and i didnt have any real issue with them in the wet altho with them being on my summer bike the use in the wet was only minimal.

On the flip side i have conti GPs on my winter bike which are 3000 miles old and have been ridden through pretty rough conditions and they are still going strong.

Personally i would stick with them till they need changing but i wouldnt buy another set

Have put a 1,000 miles on my Yksion's with no issues bar a number of very small cuts, although I have pretty much only ever ridden them in dry conditions. Had one puncture but that was due to glass on the road.

Just ordered the Michelin Pro4 SC from Decathlon though as seem to be a great deal. But not planning to use them until the Yksion's show more signs of wear.

Glad I read this. I have the Mavics on my new Kysyrium Elites, so far so good (in the dry). I'm off to France at the weekend which I'm hoping will be dry, but I've been caught in some pretty full on downpours in the Alps on Beautiful days.

Reading this, I reckons I should bung some GP4000's on.

I've got nothing against Mavic wheels but I've had two sets of Yksion tyres that came with wheel purchases and I can safely say they've been absolute shockers. The second set especially - OK one puncture can happen on any tyres but having not pinched even one inner tube for six years I pinched the tubes on these undersized tyres FIVE TIMES in a week. To top it all off the sidewall blew when I was on the front of a group ride and I had to limp home. I've had no more problems, whether punctures or pinched tubes, since I switched to S-Works Turbo tyres (apart from having five patches on one of the tubes and a different one seems to want to come loose periodically, hence why it's now in the saddle bag as an emergency last resort) :P

Make of that what you will.
