New chainrings for Ultegra 6700

I am looking to switch my Ultegra 6700 compact chainset to a double.

Am I right in thinking I can just buy some larger chainrings and substitute them for what is already there?

If so, can anyone recommend some good ones to go for? I've seen some FSA ones but wondered if there are any other alternatives which would fit.

Thanks

    No, you can't.

    6700 compacts have a BCD of 110mm

    6700 double (53/39) chainrings have a BCD of 130mm

    You'll need new cranks too.
So better to sell your compact and buy a double

However, new 6800 use the same BCD for all rings. Handy!
2020 Reilly Spectre - raw titanium
2020 Merida Reacto Disc Ltd - black on black
    2015 CAAD8 105 - very green - stripped to turbo bike
    2018 Planet X Exocet 2 - grey

    The departed:

    2017 Cervelo R3 DI2 - sold
    Boardman CX Team - sold
    Cannondale Synapse - broken
    Cube Streamer - stolen
    Boardman Road Comp - stolen

Thanks fro your reply but dammit!

Is BCD the 'spider arm' bit the chainrings bolt on to?

In that case can anyone recommend a sensibly priced shimano compatible chainset? I might as well replace it with something which does not look as minging!

Anything will work - head off into the deals and have a look at what you fancy. Just double check b/b bits.

I have a lightly used 53/39 FSA Gossamer Pro with bottom bracket, pm me if interested.

Or, you could buy some mid-compact 52/36 rings by Praxis Works or the like in 110BCD.

Thanks for the suggestions. I saw CRC had a good sale so have gone for a double 6700.

Budget will not stretch to the juicier looking chainsets out there. The ones I like all look to be around £300 and I want to be able to fit a stages eventually...

This^^^. TA is another option and there are a couple other aftermarket chainring mfrs. that make larger rings for compact cranks. Just be aware that none will shift quite as sharp as the Shimano rings (Shimano shapes the teeth to help grab the chain) but it's usually not a major difference and isn't an issue for many people.
