I have a 10 spd 105 chainset and long arm GS derailleur. I am trying to find the relevant 11-32 cassette and chain that will fit this set up. I have looked for the normal road gear (105, ultegra etc) and the current cassettes only go up to 11-30. I know it's possible to run an 11-32 as the new Cube Peleton Race has compact 105 with 10 spd 11-32 cassette. Can anyone help with this? Do I just go for Shimano HG81 SLX and relevant MTB chain? Will this work with 105 chainset?

SRAM PG 1050 and a ten speed chain of your choice, shimano, kmc etc etc.

Might be an MTB cassette http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techd ... 758377.pdf It should work as I believe I have read on this forum that Road and MTB 10sp cassettes are compatible, use a 10spd KMC chain with missing link.0

A 5700 GS works fine with a shimano CS HG81 10 and a 10 speed chain of your choice. I like KMC chains myself.
My bike came with this setup (God knows why, I took it all off, bar the KMC chain).

Hi,
I am looking for a similar solution for my C'dale Synapse 105 disc which has a 34 50 compact matched to a 12 30 cassette. I live in N.Wales and there are challenging hills on most routes...I want the option for a very low gear, especially since I'm considering fitting panniers and carrying more gear..
Did you manage to successfully fit a larger range cassette? As you say, if Cube have done it with a 105 10 speed set up, it must be possible...?0 -
Assuming Sram is ok to run with Shimano, why don't you run Sram wifli.
I have 11-32 on rear with long cage and 50-34 on the front. 10 speed.
All Sram force though, but available in apex and rival versions too

He'd need to buy shifters and a rear mech. It makes more sense just to buy a long cage 105 rear mech.Red bikes are the fastest.0 -
The OP already has the mid-cage (GS) rear mech (very first sentence in his post), and is looking for a cassette and chain. SRAM do an 11-32 and a 12-32 in the 10 speed 1050 cassette. They seem to be out of stock, or not stocked in that size, on the few places I had a quick look at (Merlin, CRC, Wiggle). Might have to hunt around.
For a chain, any 10 speed would do I think, but might as well get the 1050 chain to match. You could always phone who you're buying them from to check it's long enough, but they normally come plenty long and you need to take some links out.0 -

Personally I'd go for a KMC chain :-
