Wider bar for DH

I want to get a wider bar for the Trek Session. Still using the stock 720mm Bonty Big earl atm

So...

Renthal FatBar 780mm x 20mm rise x 7º backsweep x 360g @ £55 (seems like a pretty good price to me)

or

Superstar Collective 780mm x 25mm rise x 8º backsweep x 345g @ £40

or another sub-£60 780mm wide bar?

The Renthals are indestructible. Raceface Atlas are also solid and a nice shape.

Really liked my old nukeproof warhead, but thats only 760mm but bang on for my shoulders.

The Nukeproofs are cheap enough but think I'd prefer the full width then cut em down if I need to. Will check out the Raceface Atlas but they're looking like they're more expensive than the Renthal's and only 10mm rise?

I've never been let down by any Superstar kit so my head says try those out but then there's the fact that the Renthal's will match the Boxxer stanchions...not that I'm bothered about that

I liked the Kore OCD's. Not too expensive and pretty light. Proved to be plenty tough as well. The finish on the red bars isn't great (no idea about the others) as it chips too easily but you can't have it all.

The Superstar's claimed weight seems pretty high, certainly wouldn't call them light. I heli-taped my OCD's at 780mm and they weighed 303g so easily under 300g without the tape, a fair bit lighter than either the Superstar's or Renthal's.

Nukeproof make an 800mm version of their bar as well but I can't say I was that impressed by my 760's.

Kore's are def pretty light - stated at 285g for an 800m bar. That's only a tad more than my 711mm Easton Alu Haven bars. Worth a thought I guess...

Left field choice http://www.carboncycles.cc/?s=0&t=2&c=94&p=1063& as long as 750 is wide enough....... Otherwise the Superstars although the black and white is the only colour scheme not likely to make your ride buddies vomit.

There's no chance I'd trust those on an AM bike, never mind a DH bike.

Does it really matter what a bar looks like? By the time it's covered in grips, brakes, gears, dropper remote, computer, GoProp mount, etc, etc you can't see most of it.

Depends where the upsweep starts, most start at the top of the rise, but the width at the low level and width during the rise varies a lot between bars, so anything from not much to a bit more i'd say!

Yeah - figured obviously depends where the bend starts. I guess it's grips off and a bit of string time...

I have had the misfortune of using the El Guapo bar for a day on a Santa Cruz Bullit I borrowed from a mate.
Beautifully finished, looks nice but a terrible shape. It just feels really straight. Really uncomfortable, I had really sore wrists and shoulders after a day riding with those bars.

Might put one of these on the Votec though - seems a steal at £60ish (with free delivery to France). Would gimme some more width and drop a good chunk of weight off the front end - both of which the bike could do with.

The Spank Spike 777 is pretty good. I guess the Subrosa is just lighter and narrower.
Just don't buy the Spike or Subrosa stem, piece of crap.

Cheers RmSC. They're quoting the same weight for the 777 - can't be right but anyway only available in 30mm rise. 747 is available in 15mm rise which think will suit me better...think I'll go for it - £40 seems like a good price
