Seatpost slippage

I've got a problem with my seatpost slipping down into the frame very slowly.

It's an alu seatpost into a carbon seattube. Cube say not to use grease but don't mention carbon assembly paste. Is this likely to be a fix?

    Try some carbon assembly grease.

I say so and you've nothing to loose by trying it, beside £7 for the paste.

Cheers guys, the Finish Line stuff is pretty cheap on Wiggle at the moment so I'll pick up a tube with a few other bits.

I had the same problem but the other way round, carbon post in an alloy frame. Carbon paste, Pace I think I bought, means it stays rock solid and I don't have to go all gorilla on the seatpost clamp bolt. I remove it periodically for a quick wipe and reapplication.

This could cause some confusion. Carbon assembly paste is not grease - the exact opposite of a lubricant in fact!

Carbon paste as above or copperslip - the small copper particles in it will act exactly the same as the granules in carbon paste (whish is why it shouldn't be used on rotating stuff).

I'm not sure if that's actually going to work. When used on bolts, you need less torque with anti-seize because it results in lower friction than grease. While you wouldn't use it as a lubricant on a bike, it is used as such in places that see high temperature or pressure.

Agree re tourque settings but particles grip and abrade (same principle as carbon paste) - that's what makes it doubly great for using on motorbikes and the such like.

    Try hair spray.

Agree. Works perfect on grips as well. And hair.

Or, frame permitting, you could try this...

I think that is two seat post clamps (no problem by me) - you can also get seat post clamps that are one unit but have to bolts - same principal different execution.

Hairspray is an interesting suggestion. Might try that. Or the second seatpost collar.

I didn't have this problem at all for a good 13 months but recently it's slipping about 2mm over the course of a 35 mile ride despite the collar being at 5Nm as prescribed.

I'd go hairspray first as it costs nothing and I'm skint. Then seat post collar.
