I need your help please........New bike purchase.
We don’t have a lot of money to spend if I am honest. I could go to £550 if needed but that would be stretching m,y budget to the extreme. I have spent hours upon hours trawling the internet and have now got the point whereby I am non the wiser than when I started. It’s a complete mine field out there!!
I have decided hardtail with lockout and pre-load adjust forks and hydraulic brakes is the way to go but when it comes to bike selection I end up scratching my head and rubbing my chin. So my question is to lovely people. What should I go for. Below is my shortlist…..I would like your honest opinions please. Feel free to throw any other bikes into the mix that you think I should consider.
Whistle Miwok 1482D
Whistle Miwok 1481D
Carrera Vulcan / Kraken or Fury.
Rockrider 520 / 540 or 8.1.
Voodoo Hoodoo.
I really appreciate any help you can offer.
Looking forward to your advice and responses.

First, pre load on elastomer forks is a joke
I would go for the voodoo hoodoo, no personal experience but gets very good reviews.0 -
Get the Voodoo or Rockrider.
The preload adjustment on some forks (low end Suntour and RST and others) does absolutely nothing.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Being in France, I'd consider the Rockriders - plenty of Decathlons all over.I don't do smileys.
There is no secret ingredient - Kung Fu Panda
