sram force calipers
I am having trouble stopping my sram force front caliper going off centre. According to sram's tech manual I use a 13 mm wrench to approximately centre the brakes and then use the same wrench to hold them in position when I tighten the fixing bolt. However my 13mm wrench is too narrow to fit over the bolt and so I have had to use a 14mm one instead that seems a little too big. The result is that whilst all appears well in the workstand as soon as I apply the brakes with force when it is on the ground they go off centre. This has been a problem for a while but seems to be getting worse.
Could anyone let me know what size wrench they are using ?
Am I doing something obviously wrong ?

Have you tried a different 13mm wrench...not all 13mm wrenches are equal :shock:0

Yup - try a decent quality spanner and see what happens. Nothing from Poundland/your car tool kit.
Please, please, please though don't use an adjustable. Please. Pretty please.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

I've never used a wrench to centre mine. Just pull (and hold) the brake lever tight so the pads are gripping the rim, then tighten the allen bolt.0

I think I need to try a decent spanner. Thought about an adjustable but looked at the size of it and thought better of it.
Just squeesing the brake pads and tightening does not seem to be doing the trick . Use to work but not now.0 -

No. Never, ever do this unless you really want to fukk it up.
Go to the nearest proper tool man (ones that are good and won't break the bank are Draper, Halfords Professional, Teng, moving upmarket to Facom and Snap On) and buy what you need. Never use an adjustable except for farm machinery and hitting burglars.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am
