Weekday daytime rides

Hello all

I work offshore doing month on, month off rotation. I have found that the majority of my riding is done during the daytime during the week. Weekends are usually tied up with the family and visiting friends that are too busy during the week. I have managed a couple of club rides (3 over the last year) but due to the sporadic nature of my time I feel like I'm a newbie every time I consider going out with the club and this is holding me back a bit. I was wondering if anyone else was in a similar situation down in the Winchester/ Southampton/ Eastleigh area and fancied a couple of regular weekday runs.

Would be great if it was possible. Something a bit more relaxed than a club, but also something to aim for and keep up the motivation i.e I've committed to meeting some people so I have to go out on my bike.

I figured if I am in this situation, then there might be some others so bung a post up and see what happens.

Ben

Have a scout around to see if any clubs have a significant number of active veterans, they will often train mid-week, won't hang around and will welcome newcomers, you might even learn a thing or 2. Also look for CTC midweek rides, likely to be a gentler pace but its still riding.

    Ben,

Myself and a mate get out on our bikes quite a bit during the week (shift work etc) and we are in your area, Hedge end near Southampton. We don't have regular days that we go out but generally twice a week depending on our work schedules. We normally ride for about 3 hours at a time in to the South downs so about 50 miles give or take.

Would this be of any interest to you?

I know in our club the regular run is on Sunday mornings, but a few of the guys are retired and do rides every Thursday too, so it's worth asking around and see if there is a regular event.

Sotonia do a Wednesday ride each week, going from North Baddesley, generally 50+miles into the NF. Decent pace.

[EDIT] Sotonia are probably the friendliest bunch I've ridden with, and the Wednesday lot are good guys. I'm not a member, and just turn up on the group rides now and again, never have a problem.

Thanks for all the advice. DOG, I'm going to try and get out tomorrow with Sotonia and see what the crack is.

Gary, or anyone else reading this from South Hampshire, the pm's seem to not be working. Drop me an email. Its the same as my user name at hotmail.com

I'll be home from work in a week or so (around the 25th Ocotber), if anyone fancies some weekday riding. Weekends are a bit too busy but I might be able to get out on a Saturday morning.

  • Hey Ben, you will usually find that weekday rides during the day means the roads will be more quiet. That's what I find anyway. I work Mon to Fri 7am-3pm and sometimes I snaffle a days holiday so I can get a good ride in. Good luck with your buddy search mate.

Thanks Jules. Yeah I love the fact my work means I get 4 to 6 weeks off at any one time. it does mean I have to be away for at least the same though. The only problem is most shore based jobs are 9-5 Monday to Friday so not many people about.
