I have noticed that roadies always look miserable. You never see them smiling and certainly never see them grinning like idiots.
Thats my observation anyway.

because they have never had the joy of dirt on their helmets?0

If you had to spend hour after boring hour on a saddle that could double as a torture instrument whilst wearing lycra and always worrying that you were breaking one of the roadie rules then you too could look like someone whos just shat there pants.
Apparently your not even allowed to sneak up alongside your mate and try and make him fall off by pulling his front brake. Unbeleivably your not even allowed to buzz his back tyre with your front tyre at high speed on a bumpy descent, I mean whats the point of riding if you cant buzz a tyre at 25mph.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -

It`s actually just mobile meditation. We`re not miserable, we`re contented souls !Trek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently0

I can understand why they would be miserable but why would they continue to do it?
I only ride mine because it's cheaper than driving to work which means more money for mountain biking.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
It's just exhaustion , on a road bike it is easier to ride continually at the limit of your fitness. On a mountain bike it is more like series of sprints with bike handling thrown in. Both keep you fit in different ways.0

Because I'm thinking that I should have taken the BFe out instead"Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

Could be. That would explain why she encourages me to go riding a lot.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Gay as in happy or gay as in a man who likes a man?
Thing are so confusing these days. I remember a time when one could feel a little dizzy and safely say the had come over a little queer.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

I ride both and love both.
On average though I'd say road riding is harder - physically. Probably because you CAN. Riding MTB is more on-off-on-off in terms of effort and you always need plenty in reserve to keep your legs in shape to handle the bumps and downhills.
Road riding sort of encourages you to ride closer to your threshold for pain/exhaustion - perhaps this is the reason for the "misery" on roadie's faces? 8)
Still, it feels great when you are smashing along on the flat or hooning downhill at close to 60mph on narrow tyres and crap brakes! You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
I manage over 50mph most mornings on the way to work on my road bike and compared to 30mph on a downhill bike it's just dull.
I have come to the conclusion that road cycling is mountain biking with ALL the fun removed.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
