Tyre catching on gear cable

My tyre is catching on the gear cable going to the rear derailleur.
What can I do?
What are the plastic bits that are fixed to the underside of the frame called, that route both front and rear gear cables towards their derailleurs? Can I get a wider one?
Thanks.

Get rid of the gears, they are for wimps and gays0

And get rid of the tyre. Doubly heroic.
But really not up to your normal standard.I don't do smileys.

It's because your tyre is wobbly from being folded.0

Get your wheel fixed."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Care to actually explain your problem in English clearly? Or even better post a picture. But we all know you won't.0

A picture speaks a thousand words, rubez.
Post a photo of the problem area and you may get informed responses.

Come on guys - someone asks for help and all you can do is mock.
Not nice.
Rubez, those watchamacallits that are fixed to the big metal bit that holds the round jobbies in place to hold the wiry whotsits are called thingummyjigs.I don't do smileys.

How about a thread on servicing your servicing tools? I'm quite proud of that one0

TEE-HEE!! Bunch of school girls.
I think I have the tyres seated, only to index the gears after I fix this cable problem.
If I need to seek help elsewhere, I won't be posting a photo of the finished article.
And I know that will disappoint you.
This can't be a unique or unsolvable problem. Stock tyres must have been more pathetic than the jokes in this thread.

Just shorten the wire a bit, it's not hard.0

Would that be the wire on the toaster or kettle?I don't do smileys.

Sounds like your cable is routed wrong or you're tyre is too wide. As mentioned above a photo would show if the routing is correct or if the tyre is too wide for the frame.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Is this a recent problem or is it a new bike?
Is the wheel straight or buckled slightly?
Tyre seated properly?
Can you cut down the 'wire'?
You shouldn't need to mess around with the cable routing on the bb shell.0 -
Stu, suggest you read Rubez's other threads......Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Sorted it.
Got a replacement bracket which has two mounting holes side by side, instead of one in the centre - so the cable now clears the wheel
Tyre was a little too wide for the frame, but this sorts it.

How does a bit of plastic make a tyre not to small for a frame? You are special.0
-
The tyre isn't chaffing, unlike your underwear, but it is far wider than the stock tyre, which caused the wire to snag.
If you don't know how the bracket works, then I can't explain it further :shock:0 -
None of that makes the tyre too big for the frame.
PS - I know exactly how that guide works as I have one fitted.0 -
I said a little too big - in the context of snagging the cable, and comparative to the weedy stock tyres.
Although you knew that and were just being awkward... time for bigger underpants, they are riding you and making you cranky!0 -

But if the tyre was rubbing on the underside of the BB you have bigger problems.I don't do smileys.

BB? bottom bracket?
The knobby tyre was only catching on the gear cable, which is now resolved.0 -
This actually seems one of Rubez's more sensible threads, we have no pictures of course but it sounds like the cable routed inside the chain stay at the BB end and the new guide has moved it out to more under the stay giving more clearance.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
