...is apparently the latest must do challenge and is the buzzword used for riding the height gain of Everest (8,848 metres) in one ride as described below:

Everesting: a new mountain to climb for cyclists

So, who is up for giving this a go with me this weekend? Just 52 times up Box hill and we've cracked it!

well, seeing as the height gain up Balham Hill is circa 12 metres then I think we would actually need to ride it 737 times (happy to be corrected on the actual height gain rather than my guesstimate)

8,900m IN ONE GO, no thanks, cycling is meant to be fun!

14 times up the single biggest climb I've done, or about 4.5 times the most climbing I've done in a day so far.

I was looking at this the other day.

I think it looks like great fun..... But I haven't tried it yet.

Basically 30,000ft of climbing in one ride! I usually reckon over 1,000ft in 10 miles is hilly. So that would be 300 miles of hilly riding then.

Good luck, I'm currently 5th in Silly Commuters :D
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

A friend did this for charity on the 27th April. There were supporting a friend who was planning to actually climb Everest (also for charity) on the same day, but sadly due to the events on the mountain, he wasn't able to complete this.

However the Box Hill climb went ahead.

Bloody impressive riding, 50 times up Box Hill! Wouldn't qualify as an Everesting though, I think, as they were about 2700m of climbing short. 8,848 for an Everesting, they did 6,144 according to Strava. Another 20 times up would do it. :D

96 (yes Ninety-six) accents, also handing for showing the accuracy range of his devices GPS! At least doing it that way on a hill with a fairly consistent grade you could really optimise the bike for that one grade, you could probably single speed it except you'd be going slower as the day wore on!

I take it then it doesn't count if you've just gone on a big ride with the same amount of climbing? It's supposed to be hill repeats?

My local climb of Peth Bank (complete with 20% bit) would require climbing 66 times, wow!

Anyone got any tunes they would recommend for an attempt at this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1t_DiC8AwQ Depeche Mode - A Pain That I'm Used To (Jacques Lu Cont Remix). Works on a number of levels for me .. anyone got any others?

    Yes.

    http://www.everesting.cc/the-rules/

"- Rides must only focus on one hill or mountain per ride (e.g. you can’t base yourself in one location and ride multiple hills). You cannot ride different routes on the same mountain. If there are 4 routes, that means there are 4 possible ‘first ascents’ (think of it like the North and South face of Everest).

    - Rides are not to be loops – that’s for Sunday mornings (acceptable – a Yarra Street ‘loop’ which is essentially the only way back down to the bottom of the ride. Unacceptable – the Three Peaks loop)."
