Cycle Hire Lake District

Heading to the Lakes next week and not taking my bike due to lack of bike rack. I'm staying in Bassenthwaite and wondered if there's any decent road bike hire places in the area? I'd like to hire something similar to my current ride which is a Planet X RT58 Alloy.
Cheers!
Cheers!

There's a place in Penrith that hires out Giant Defy road bikes.
I heard about it through the Hub in Newcastle so give them a call and ask as I can't find it on the web.I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.0 -
I googled for 3 seconds and found this http://www.keswickbikes.co.uk/0

Cheers guys! I had a look at Keswick bikes before was just wondering if anyone had used a shop like that in the Lakes and could recommend one.0

I doubt KMB hire out road bikes - sure they just do MTB, as do most other bike hire places over here. I was in there on monday, they do have a large selection to buy (upstairs), but hiring one is another matter.
I have found this - they are based right next door to Windermere rail station, not that near Bassenthwaite, but at least it's in the Lakes! It says they have a Trek 1.1 as their only road bike choice.

Up here it tends to be MTB hire as they are mostly based near Whinlatter and Grizedale.0 -
Keswick bikes hire pro road bikes out for £50 a day so might give them a go thanks all!0

That's for the 'pro' road bikes, a more normal road like is £25 per day, less per day if you're hiring for multiple days.0

Ahh..sorry about that - I went into the Hire Bike link on the left hand-side of the website, and just saw a MTB for hire. I hadn't gone through the other way into their hire section.
It's a really nice shop, loads of stuff upstairs for roadies (MTB downstairs).0 -

When I went up to Windermere last June I had a look in there as I came by train and it's right next door (ironically I had my 1.1 with me...)
They looked OK- basically stock 1.1s which aren't too bad in themselves. I vaguely remember them having triples on (very useful up there- even if you're fit!) but it would be worth calling to check though- you'll probably be under geared with the standard compact with 25t cassette on the back if you try the proper climbs (thinking of Hardknott and Wrynose).0 -
I wonder if they have shop rides? Good way of seeing the area! I'm not worried about having some super pro beasty, just something like I'm used to riding!0

Well given the locations, Keswick Bikes is far closer to Bassenthwaite, so I'd try there if I were you. You can't miss it - it's got a massive lime green sign, right opposite the pencil museum on the main street.0
