Garmin Edge 500 problem...

I have an edge 500 and all has been working tickety boo until my last two rides. The calorie counter on the edge now sits at zero after each ride. I wear a hear rate monitor, and am trying to lose a few kg's so am interested in seeing approx how many calories I have burned.

Any ideas why it has stopped and how to make it work again?

That is interesting - because it coincides with me updating Garmin Connect!

  • Me too - no calories recorded, despite all settings checked and reconfirmed.

Anyone spoke to Garmin Support ?
All the gear, but no idea...

I wouldn't worry about it too much, the calorie count is pretty much just a random number anyway so wouldn't base any weight loss plans around it.

  • How Garmin can get away with being utterly useless is beyond me.

Why do we all keep buying off of these incompetent "leaders", in GPS technology?

    Courses function- crap
Updates rendering basic functions useless- crap

    (500 owner also btw)

My garmin measured a top speed of 89.6 mph on a descent on my bike !

That would be with a gps rather than a gsc10 I assume?

Easy to rubbish the kit rather that the information that is fed into it methinks. Personally speaking I can't see why anyone would be even marginally interested in a random number 'calorie count' but whatever floats your boat...

Because they are still the leaders in the market, no one else comes close.

  • Personally, I wish I'd kept hold of my old Edge 305. At least the courses function worked ok on that...

The new Garmin Connect seems to be causing all sorts of problems. It wouldn't even recognize my Edge 500 until I went back to the old view. Also I now have to use a Garmin Communicator plug in that asks for permission every time I plug my Garmin in. Annoying.
