I am looking for some new shoes, i didn't want to risk an impulse buy so i went into my local Evans and tried on the only two pairs they had,

the first was a Shimano pair at £70 but i didn't like the white, i currently have Shimano and he said they were a wider fit and i have a wide fit.

the second was a pair of Garneau LG revo XR3 at £100 these very very much the same fit however were pretty distasteful to my liking.

we established that i am a 44 in both pairs, so do i stick with shamans and get a black pair or i would really like some yellow shoes and i have been told that the Northwave are a wide fit such as the srs or s3?, as a final note i would like a ratchet strap but i am willing to spend more on a BOA shoe.

any advice will be appreciated

Thanks Matt

Your Evans store sounds pretty rubbish if they only have two pairs of shoes on offer! I'd suggest you find another decent shop to try some others out.

Northwave do sell wide fitting shoes. A pal had a pair and thought they were okay. Changed them for Sidi Mega fitting (the Mega is their wide fitting in each of their models). Sidi do make great shoes.

You may also want to try a Specialised Concept Store - I have a pair of the current S-Works road shoes and whilst I wouldn't say I have wide feet, I noticed that these shoes seem to have more room around the front of the foot. Works well for me and I find the Boa system very good for adjusting when off and on the bike. They are not the hardiest of shoes - one of the less expensive models may be a more practical day to day proposition.

I have wide feet - according to the Bont fit guide on their website, I would need custom Bonts as even their widest fit isn't wide enough. However, i went with a pair of Northwave Evolution and these are a spot-on fit FOR ME.
I strongly suspect that a pair of the widest standard Bonts would have fit me anyway, but i'm personally not that keen on their look so I'm not at all disappointed in my Northwaves. On the contrary they're probably the nicest fitting shoes I've ever had - I certainly wouldn't go back to Sidi's.

I have "spade end" size feet size 10's , I found Northwave's in an 11's fit nicely and plenty wide enough without crunching the sole of the foot up.

    I'll 3rd much of what's above.

By reputation you're best off with Shimano wide fit or Northwave. I think Lake come in fairly wide too though so the might be worth a look. Don't Sidi do a wide fit as well?

Bont, Mavic, Giro and Sidi all tend to come in on the narrow side (yay for me!).

After my Shimano shoes wore out, I got a pair of Spiuk ZS15R from Wiggle, can't rate them highly enough, super comfy, well made and look smart. A lot of shoe for the cash.

I bought some Lakes by mail order, before getting my Sidi's (which I love).

The Lakes were so wide I could have got both feet in one of them.
