Trying to source a 52/36 chainset with 172.5mm cranks. Currently running a 53/39 want to go a bit lower but not as low as 50/34 which I have on my commuter. My current set up is Sram Red 2013 10speed with a press fit BB and would like something of similar quality, problem is, I just can't find anything. If you know anywhere that sells them please let me know. Thanks

Your 53/39 will be 130bcd and while you will be able to get a 52 chainring at that bcd, you won't be able to get a 36 as the smallest 130bcd ring is 38 teeth.
You could look at buying some 110bcd cranks and putting together a 52/36 chainset. Spa Cycles is your friend here:-

perhaps married to these cranks:-

Square taper I'm afraid but you can get some good quality square taper BB's for not much money0 -
Thanks arlowood have considered an 38t but not really gaining much over the already fitted 39t. Thing is SRAM do make it but no one stocks it!0

Rotor 3d with praxis rings? Not sure if 11 speed ultegra or dura ace would work but both easily available.0

AFAIK road front mechs are designed for a capacity of 14 teeth - 52/36 requires a 16 tooth mech capacity which I've never encountered - it may work with a double mech but expect some chain rub. Can't see anything on the SRAM website that suggests any different?Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Yeah - what's a good replacement for a compact Ultegra 6700 chainset in 52/36?
Running BB30 bottom bracket with adaptor cups for the Shimano 28(?) mm. crankset, so can go BB30 or Shimano.0 -

Ultegra 6800 chainset would be the obvious one. 52/36 is one of the three standards they offer.
Also as Compact is 50/34 so, I'd expect a 16T difference to work with pretty much any modern front mech.0 -

Get some Rotor 3d or 3d+ cranks and fit either round or osymetric rings from them. I have a set of SRAM Red cranks taken from one of my bikes (replaced with 3d ones) in 110BCD but unfortunately they're 170mm.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -

Looking a bit pricy that option - is there a cheaper alternative??0 -

50/34 also requires 16, so surprised you've never encountered it.wotnoshoeseh wrote:Looking a bit pricy that option - is there a cheaper alternative??
A sora compact chainset with rings swapped will work too, and much cheaper, but then in won't be comparable quality to your sram red.Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -
New 105 5800 is available in 52/36, for example:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-105-5800-11-speed-double-chainset/rp-prod116491.
Ok, you may have to wait for them coming into stock, but if you are not so desperate it's £40 cheaper than Ultegra.0 -

Stupid question alert*
5800 11-speed chainset, can this work in the 5700 10-speed system?
Are the links the same length but thinner and that wasn't a stupid question?
*Can't open the link at work, apologies if it contains the answer!0 -
^ Yes.0

I'm a campy oldie through and through but do like the new ultegra chainset that allows you to switch between compact and regular using the same cranks - great design. This should give you the 52 36 you need.0
