My new wet-weather bike. This is what happens when you take a simple problem (build a bike for the rain) and then put far too much thought into it. It took a year to get it all together, mainly because Firefly have a looong waiting list, but it was worth it.

That's lovely. Really like the touches of Green, Turquoise, Teal!? Goes so well with the TI.

    Nice build,

Have to say though, that rear end makes the front of the frame look a bit plain. :D

You may just have built my dream bike. I dread to think how much it cost though!

Love the bike. Don't love the fenders. I am with Henry Ford on mudguard colour.
  • Lovely bike, but I have to say the guards rather spoil it for me.

Jealous, been looking at their stuff for ages, just dread the import costs. Tempted to get their colour pattern on some enve forks tho.

Paying 20% VAT was painful, but the overall cost was still reasonable for a custom frame of this quality.

As titanium bike go, I like it. I think the colour adds a bit of extra interest as i'm not a fan of monochrome bikes.

That's a beautiful bike. I've always admired Firefly bikes as their engineering is amazing. The price is a bit prohibitive for my pocket though :-)

Did you get their stem as well?

While I was happy to pay for a frame from them because I needed it custom made, a stem is a stem, so I bought a cheap one instead (J&L).

That`s so gorgeous a bike it`d be a shame to ride in the wet !! each ride here recently my bike has come back plastered in mud and mess :(

As for stems---personally I`d never go for a cheapie Ti Far East one; what`s their QC like ?? Important component !!

Why did you need a custom made frame out of interest? it doesn't look too out of the ordinary.

Mudguards help a lot with this. When I was riding a bike without them in the rain, I had to thoroughly wash it every week, and that still wasn't enough to keep it clean. With this one, I haven't really cleaned it since I got it, but it still looks shiny.

In this case, since I bought a frame from the same company before and it hasn't fallen apart yet, I'm sure it's ok.

Maybe "need" is not quite the right word. There were a bunch of things I wanted that aren't typical of off-the-shelf frames, like the very large tubes (Ti frames tend to be optimized for weight instead of strength and stiffness, whereas this frame makes most MTBs look positively wimpy). And even though I'm average enough to fit on any frame, it's nice to have one that fits perfectly without excessive spacers, and with the saddle centred on the rails).

I`ve had 2x Ti frame failures from Far East mfr---they were both OK until they failed also ! So the fact that your Ti stem hasn`t given way yet isn`t a guarantee---I`ve heard of a Ti stem failing @ 60kph downhill with very adverse results to rider; Thomson make nice and reliable stems :D
