Hit a rock and the cage of the derailluer bend and stuck the spokes, could not shift properly and after some pulling and bending it worked good enough to get me back home, if I make an effort to get it straight again will it work or this is one of those things you don't mess around when they're gone wrong, the lower cage is bend and twisted and the main part of the mech has a deep scratch from the hit. can't say if there is more damage though

They are usually steel so can be bent without snapping them right off.

But if you think about how accurate they have to be aligned can you manage to get it straightened up, especially if it bent enough to hit the spokes. Try and see you have nothing to lose really

    It depends on the mech.

Most aren't worth it. And others spares cost to much. Some you can't get one side of the cage off.

Do the best you can or replace the whole lot.

It's a shimano xt mech, and I'm pretty sure it's aluminium, looking at the shaves when it rub on the cassette on its way to the spokes :)
I think too it won't worth it, even if manage to make it work, it will be easily bend or misaligned again, don't need to learn if it works 35 miles away from my bench vice...
ZEE on it's way probably, what do you think?

It's a 1X10 set up, ride trails mostly and some gravel or tarmac roads till I get there.

When i bent mine i took the cage off and put it in a vice - easy enough to do and shifts like it did before.
